Meteors (Alternate Version 2013)

from Grace EP by Casey Stratton

/

about

It was all that we could do to see it
The mountains rose and I knew it all had changed
I’d never seen the light like this
On that day when we were coming forth
We were chasing all that we had been promised
And the meteors came to cry my soul to sleep
I knew it wouldn’t be easy
But I kept the longing near

It was all in front of me
In the darkness I offered you safety
And you were almost free
But I never left all of me

I remembered all the things we’d longed for
When the rituals and we thought we had done everything right
And when the angels wings unfurled
We saw a familiar sight
We weren’t everything we could have been on that day
But we pushed toward a better way to go
We never wanted the end you know
But we circled it just the same

And I never could make it end
And I know that I had suffered again
Oh and so you never opened up
It was a world that I would never know
Still it’s more than we can possibly say
It is more than I can hear in these days
And the hero cannot be saved
Just by leaving all the truth of this place
