Claws On Wood

from When The Fates Came EP by Casey Stratton

This started as an improv, but my cats June and Wendy it was time to run all over the house and engage in general mischief. I decided to stay in the "character" of the song but use it. The result is a humorous and quite real take on my home-recording life!

Claws On Floors

In the dead of night
I came to you
I couldn’t imagine where you’d gone to
So I stayed awake for a while
To see if you’d run

You could not be worse cats right now than you are
You’re playing with the blinds and running around our house
When I’m trying to work

And the worst part about going as it comes
Is you cannot start again
When they fill it up with sound

And the claws on wood
And claws on blinds
They made me pretend that I was in another place
Where they were not

But it is our home, it happens sometimes
That your lives bleed into my
My song

And I will never be there again
I will never be the one that’s in your head
Making no sense now
Not like I ever was

You said that I wouldn’t win
That you would always know the end

I hope it all came out all right
You couldn’t have waited five more minutes
To do that
I’m sure it was emergency time
And now this is a waste of all my time
And a waste of the words inside my mind
