about

This track was written for the film "Everybody's Fine" but it was not used. I decided it fit very well with the narrative of the album "The Calling of the Crows" so it was a good fit for this single release.

lyrics

Broken Circle

Said a man to his son, to his daughters
“I may not have been what you needed.
But underneath this armor I’m your father
And I want to make this right.”

Traveled all these miles for another chance
Hopeful for some closure where it’s needed
He says “Let me say my peace
That is all I ask.
Then do what you will with it.”

How do we mend a circle that is broken?
How can we undo the past?
How do we change the words that have been spoken?
How can we manage that?
How do I find a way to make you hear me?
How do I make you believe?
That all I want now is to bring this family back?

Said the father to his children, “I’m sorry.
Maybe those two words can build a bridge.
And maybe if you’ll let me
I can show you
That I care too much to let go of this.”
